சர்வாதிகாரிகளும், இணையப் பயனர்களும்...!

இணையம் எவ்வாறு புதிய யுத்த உத்திகளை அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளது என்பது பற்றி ஒரு கட்டுரை ஒன்றை இங்கு பதிந்து இருந்தேன்:

இந்த யுத்தங்களின் பின்னணியில்,சாதாரண பயனர்களையும் பலிகடாவாக்கும் சில திட்டங்கள் உலக அளவில் அரங்கேற்றம் பெறுவது பற்றி இந்த பதிவில் பார்ப்போம்:

தற்போதைய உலகில் உள்ள அனைத்து நாடுகளும் சமூக வலைதளங்களினால் மிகவும் பயந்து போய் உள்ளன என்பதே நிதர்சன உண்மை! எகிப்திய மக்களின் புரட்சிக்கு வித்திட்ட சமூக தளங்கள் 'எங்கே நம்ம நாட்டுக்குள்ளும் புகுந்து பிரச்சினையை கொண்டு வந்து விட்டு விடுமோ' என்பதே ஒவ்வொரு ஆட்சியாளர்களின் வயிற்றிலும் புளியை கரைத்த வண்ணமுள்ளது. இவ்வகையான சமூக தளங்களை சீனா, சிரியா உட்பட பல நாடுகள் ஏற்கெனவே தடை செய்திருக்கிறன. அமெரிக்க அரசினால் புதிதாக ஏற்படுத்தப்படவுள்ள Protect IP Act (PIPA, the Senate bill), Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA, the House Bill) ஆகிய சட்ட நடைமுறைகளுக்கு எதிராக கடந்த வாரங்களில் இணைய உலகில் கடும் எதிர்ப்பலைகள் கிளம்பி உள்ளன.

இணையதளங்களையே மூலதனமாக வைத்து ஆட்சியை பிடித்த திருவாளர் ஒபாமா அமெரிக்காவில் ஒரு புதிய சட்டத்தை, SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) என்ற பெயரில் கொண்டு வர முனைந்தார். இச் சட்டத்தினால் குறிப்பிட்ட சில இணையதளங்களை அமெரிக்காவில் தடை செய்வதின் மூலம் தம் நாட்டின் நிஜ - நிழல் பிம்பங்கள் உலக அரங்கில் ஏறாதவாறு தடுத்து விடலாம் என்ற நோக்கில் முயற்சித்தார். ஒபாமாவின் இந்த முயற்சிக்கு அமெரிக்க மக்கள் மட்டுமல்ல; பிரபல இணைய நிறுவனங்களும் (Google, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn போன்றவை) ஒன்றாக சேர்ந்து கடும் எதிர்ப்பு குரல் கொடுத்தன.

ஒரே வாரத்தில் 72,000 -த்துக்கு மேலான Domain -களை இழந்த GoDaddy

இப்படி இணைய ஜாம்பவான்களே தம் எதிர்ப்புகளை தெரிவித்து கொண்டு இருக்கையில், Go Daddy என்னும் Domain & Hosting வழங்கி வரும் நிறுவனம் தனது ஆதரவை இந்த 'ஹிட்லர் தன' புதிய சட்டத்திற்கு கொடுத்தது. ஏற்கெனவே செம கடுப்பில் இருந்த அமெரிக்கர்களுக்கு Go Daddy -இன் செயல் மேலும் எரிச்சலை உண்டு பண்ண, இதனுடன் வியாபார ரீதியாகவும், தனியாகவும் Domain வைத்திருந்தவர்கள் தங்களது கணக்குகளை விலக்கிக்கொண்டு வேறு நிறுவனங்களில் தங்களது Domain -ஐ இணைக்க தொடங்கினார்கள். Go Daddy தன் ஆதரவு அறிவிப்பை வார முதல் நாளான திங்கள் அன்று வெளியிட அன்று மட்டும் 8,800 Domain -கள் இந்த தளத்தில் இருந்து வெளியேறி வேறு நிறுவனங்களில் தங்களை இணைத்துக்கொண்டனர். தினம், தினம் இந்த எண்ணிக்கை கூடிக்கொண்டே போனது.

Wikipedia -வும், தன் அறிவிப்பை அதன் உரிமையாளர் Jimmy Wales மூலம் Twitter -ரில், வெளியிட்டு தன் நிலையை உறுதிபடுத்தி உள்ளது.

தினமும் கூடிக்கொண்டே போன எதிர்ப்பு அலைகள் Go Daddy - ஐ ஸ்தம்பிக்கவே செய்து விட்டது. ஆம்!ஒரு வாரத்துக்குள் 72,000 -த்துக்கு மேலான Domain - களை இழந்து விட்டது. இதனை எதிர் கொள்ளவியலாத நிலையில் Go Daddy, SOPA -க்கு கொடுத்த ஆதரவை வாபஸ் வாங்கியது. இதன் பிறகு, விலகிக்கொண்ட தனது வாடிக்கையாளர்களை மீண்டும் இனைந்து கொள்ள கேட்டுக்கொண்டும், எவருமே சமாதானம் ஆனதாக தெரியவில்லை. இதோடு நில்லாமல், கடந்த டிசம்பர் 29 ஐ ,Go Daddy -லிருந்து விலகும் நாளாக (Move Your Domain Away from GoDaddy Day) அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

தமது எதிர்ப்பை வெளிக்காட்டுவதற்காக பிரபல இணையத்தளமான விக்கிப்பீடியா ஆங்கிலத் தளத்தை ஜனவரி 18 ஆம் திகதி, 24 மணிநேரம் முடக்குவதாக அதிரடியாக அறிவித்தார் ஜிம்மி வேல்ஸ்.

அதன் படி குறித்த தினம் ஏதாவது ஒரு தகவலை விக்கிப்பீடியா இணையத்தளத்தில் தேடிய போது:

"சுதந்திர தகவல்கள் இல்லாத உலகை கற்பனை செய்து கொள்ளுங்கள். மனித வரலாற்றிலேயே பலர் மில்லியன் கணக்கான மணிநேரம் உருவாக்கிய உலகின் மாபெரும் தகவல் களஞ்சியமாக திகழ்கின்றது விக்கிப்பீடியா. ஆனால் அமெரிக்க காங்கிரஸ் சுதந்திர தகவல்களை முடக்கிவிட திட்டமிடுகின்றது இந்த நடவடிக்கையை எதிர்ப்போம்"

என்று கறுப்புத் நிறத்தில் அறிவித்தல் ஒன்றை போட்டிருந்தது. விக்கிப்பிடீயாவின் இந்த முடிவினால் அத்தளத்திற்கு வருகை தரும் 25 மில்லியன் பாவனையாளர்கள் பாதிக்கபடுவார்கள் என கணக்கிடப்பட்டது.

2012 ஆம் ஆண்டின் ஜனவரி 18ம் திகதி முக்கியமான நாளாகும். ஏனெனில் அன்றைய தினமே வரலாற்றில் மாபெரும் இணைய ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் நடைபெற்றது என sopastrike.com தெரிவிக்கின்றது. இதற்கு ஏனைய இணையத்தளங்களின் ஆதரவையும் கோரினர்.

சில விவகாரங்களில் விக்கிபீடியா சரியான நிலைப்பாடுகளை எடுக்க வேண்டியிருந்தாலும் நடுநிலையைத் தவறவிடுவதில்லை எனவும், "என்சைக்ளோபீடியா நடுநிலையானதுதான், ஆனால் அதற்கு அச்சுறுத்தல் ஏற்படும்போது அது வேடிக்கை பார்க்காது" என விக்கிப்பீடியா ஸ்தாபகர் ஜிம்மி வேல்ஸ் தெரிவித்திருந்தார்.

கூகிள் நிறுவனமும் தனது பங்கிற்கு https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/ என்ற பக்கத்தில் போராட்டத்தை ஆரம்பித்தது:

சேவை நிறுத்தத்துக்கு நல்ல வரவேற்பு:

இணைய பாவணையாளர்களிடையே விழிப்புணர்வு மேற்கொள்ளும் முகமாக விக்கிபீடீயாவின் ஆங்கில பிரிவு மேற்கொண்ட திடீர் வேலைநிறுத்தம் நல்ல வரவேற்பை பெற்றுள்ளது. அமெரிக்காவின் மிக பிரபலமான இணையத்தளங்களில் 10 வது இடத்திலிருக்கும் விக்கிபீடியா நேற்றைய ஜனவரி 18 போராட்டத்தின்

பின்னர் 19 ஆம் திகதி அன்று தனது முகப்பு பக்கத்தில் "விக்கிபீடியாவின் பாதுகாப்புக்காக ஒத்துழைத்தமைக்கு நன்றி" என குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருந்தது.

'எனினும் நாம் இன்னமும் அதை செய்துமுடிக்கவில்லை' எனவும் கூறியுள்ளது. அமெரிக்காவில் கூகுள் ஹோம்பேஜில் கறுப்பு கட்டத்துடன் தோன்றிய லோகோவும் பலரின் கவனத்தை பெற்றிருந்தது. குறித்த லோகோவின் ஊடாக, 4.5 மில்லியன் பேர் அமெரிக்க காங்கிரஸுக்கு எதிரான ஆன்லைன் பெட்டிஷனில் கையெழுத்திட்டுள்ளனர்.

குறித்த தினத்தில் இச்சட்டத்தை எதிர்த்து 2.4 மில்லியன் குறுஞ்செய்திகள் டுவிட்டர் ஊடாக பதியப்பட்டுள்ளது.

விக்கிபீடியாவின் ஆங்கில பிரிவின் முகப்பு பக்கத்தின் ஊடாக இச்சட்டத்திற்கு எதிரான விழிப்புணர்வு பதிவை 4 மில்லியன் பேர் பார்த்துள்ளனர்.

அமெரிக்காவின் சான்பிரான்ஸிஸ்கோ, லாஸ்வேகாஸ், நியூயோர்க் நகரங்களில் இச்சட்டத்திற்கு எதிராக ஆர்ப்பாட்ட பேரணிகளும் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளன.

பேஸ்புக் நிறுவனர் மார்க் சூக்கர் பேர்க், ஆர்ப்பாட்ட தினமன்று விடுத்த அறிவிப்பில்,

"இணையம் சார்ந்த சார்புக்கொள்கை உடைய அரசியல் தலைவர்களே தற்போது இந்த உலகத்துக்கு தேவை. இவ்வாறான தலைவர்களுடன் நாம் பல மாதங்களாக பேசிவருகிறோம். இதற்கான மாற்று வழிகளை தேடி வருகிறோம்" என தெரிவித்திருந்தார்.

அவருடைய சொந்த பேஸ்புக் பக்கத்தில் அவர் பதிருந்த இப்பதிவை 50,000 ற்கு மேற்பட்டோர் லைக் செய்திருந்தனர்.

கடந்த வருடம், நவம்பர் மாதம் அமெரிக்க செனட் சபை மற்றும் பிரதிநிதிகள் சபையில் முன்மொழியப்பட்ட இணைய திருட்டு தடுப்பு சட்ட வரைபானது (Stop Online Piracy Act, SOPA) மேலும் பல கலந்துரையாடல்களின் பின்னர் எதிர்வரும் வாரமளவில் சட்டபூர்வமாக அமலாக்கப்பட சந்தர்ப்பம் அதிகரித்துள்ளது. இது இணைய தணிக்கை முறை, இணையத்தை முடக்குவதாகவும், சுதந்திர பேச்சு மற்றும் குற்றவியல் முன்னறிவிப்பாளர்களுக்கு பயமுறுத்துவதாகவும் இருப்பதாக இச்சட்டத்தை எதிர்ப்பவர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.

உதாரணத்திற்கு சிறிய வசதிகளுடன் இயங்கும், வெளிநாட்டு இணைய தளங்கள், வேறொரு பிரபலமான இணைய தளத்திலிருந்து ஒரு தகவலை அதன் அனுமதியின்றி பிரதி செய்து பிரசுரிக்குமாயின் அல்லது ஆட்சேபணைக்குரிய கருத்து பகிர்வொன்றை பிரசுரிக்குமாயின் குறித்த சிறிய இணையத்தளம் மீது வழக்கு தாக்கல்

செய்யலாம்.

கூகுள், பேஸ்புக், யாஹூ போன்ற தேடுபொறிகளில் குறித்த பதிவு பற்றிய சொற்களையே தேட முடியாத படி முடக்கலாம். அமெரிக்க வர்த்தக சந்தையை பாதுகாப்பதற்காகவே இச்சட்டம் என வெளிப்படையாக சொல்லப்பட்டாலும், உண்மையில் இணைய உலகின் இலவச தகவல் பகிர்வு சேவையை முடக்குவதற்கே அமெரிக்கா இச்சட்டம் மூலம் முயற்சிக்கிறது என்கிறார்கள் ஆய்வாளர்கள்.

இதற்கு முன்பு ஜப்பான் மற்றும் ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்காவினால் முன்மொழியப்பட்ட ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) என்கிற உலகளாவிய சட்டமூலமும் இணைய திருட்டுக்களை தவிர்ப்பதற்காக இரகசியமான முறையில் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. அவற்றை வெளிப்படுத்துமாறு எழுந்த குரல்களை தட்டிக்கழித்து சரியான பேச்சுவார்த்தைகளோ முடிவுகளோ எட்டப்படாத நிலையில் இந்த புதிய சட்டமூலங்கள் இணைய ஜாம்பவான்களாக திகழும் நிறுவனங்கள் முதல் சாதராண இணையப் பயனர்களிடையே பலத்த எதிர்ப்புக்களையும் சந்தேகங்களையும் ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளன.

ஐந்தாவது பரிமாணத்தில் போராடுதல்

தொழில்நுட்ப முன்னேற்றமும் , நூதனங்களும் இன்றைய உலகின் போராட்டங்களின் உத்திகளில் பாரிய மாற்றங்களை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளன. அவை இன்று இணைய (சைபர்) உலகை (Cyber World) புதிய யுத்த முன்னரங்காக மாற்றம் பெறச்செய்வதில் பாரிய செல்வாக்கு செலுத்துகின்றன. இன்றைய உலகின் போராட்டங்களிலும், புரட்சிகளிலும் இணையத்தின் பங்கு, இதுதொடர்பாக முன்னணி நாடுகளின் நிலைப்பாடு குறித்த ஒரு சிறு கட்டுரை அண்மையில் அல்ஜசீரா ஆங்கில சேவை வலையமைப்பின் இணையதளத்தில் வந்த ஒரு கட்டுரையை தமிழில் இயன்றவரை மொழி பெயர்த்து வாசர்களுக்காக பகிர்ந்து கொள்கின்றேன்.

ஐந்தாவது பரிமாணத்தில் போராடுதல்

“யுத்த முறைமைகளில் ஐந்தாம் பரிமாணம்” என்று அது அழைக்கப்படுகின்றது. நிலம், கடல், வான், மற்றும் விண்வெளிகளுக்கு மேலதிகமாக இன்று இணைய(சைபர்) உலகமும் புதிய யுத்த முன்னரங்காக பரிமாற்றம் அடைகின்றது.

தொழில்நுட்ப புதுமைகள், இன்றைய நாளின் யுத்த உத்திகளை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு வருகின்றன. இன்றைய உலகனிது ஆயுத களஞ்சியத்தில் புதிய கருவிகள் சேர்ந்துள்ளன. மின்காந்தவியல், நவீன தகவல்கள், மற்றும் தொடர்பாடல் தொழில்நுட்பங்களில் ஏற்பட்ட முன்னேற்றத்தின் உதவியினால், புது வகையானதொரு இலத்திரனியல் யுத்தம் ஒன்று உருவாகியுள்ளது. “சைபர் யுத்தம்” அல்லது “இணைய யுத்தம்” என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்ற இந்த யுத்தமானது பல்வேறு அரசாங்கங்களுக்கும், இராணுவங்களுக்கும் பாரிய அச்சுறுத்தலாக அமைவதாக கருதப்படுகின்றது.

“உங்களிடம் ஒருசில கெட்டித்தனமான மனிதர்களும், ஒரு கணினியும் இருந்தால் நிறைய விடயங்களை சாதிக்கலாம். யுத்த வானூர்தியோ, யுத்த தாங்கியோ, இராணுவமோ தேவைப்படாது. உங்களது நாற்காலியில் அமர்ந்தவாறே இன்னொரு நாட்டிற்குள் ஊடறுத்துச் சென்று பாரிய சேதத்தை ஏற்படுத்தலாம்” என்று Alon Ben David என்கிற இஸ்ரேலினுடைய Channel 10 இனது இராணுவ ஆய்வாளர் குறிப்பிடுகின்றார்.

இன்று வளர்ந்து வருகின்ற விடயங்களாக சைபர் யுத்தங்கள் மாத்திரம் கருதப்பட முடியாது. இணையமானது இன்று இணைய கிளர்ச்சிகளை (Cyber Activism) முடுக்கிவிட்டுள்ளது. தகவல்களை பரிமாறுவதன் மூலம், ஆன்லைனிலும், வீதிகளிலும் தேவையான நடவடிக்கைகளை, மக்கள் தாங்களாக எடுத்து செயற்படுத்துவதற்கான ஆதரவை இலகுவாக பெறக்கூடியதாக உள்ளது.

அரபுலக நாடுகளில் அண்மைய காலங்களில் பரவி இருக்கும் புரட்சிகளை தூண்டும் வகையில் சமூக வலைதளங்களான Facebook, Twitter, YouTube ஆகியன இந்த புதிய இணைய கிளர்ச்சிகளுக்கு வழிசமைப்பதில் முன்னணி வகித்துள்ளன.

“அராபிய வசந்தம்” (Arab Spring) என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்ற இந்த புரட்சியானது இலத்திரனியல் புரட்சியாக கருதப்படுகின்றது. போராட்டங்கள் தொடர்பான கள நிலவரங்களை தங்களது கையடக்க தொலை பேசிகளின் மூலம் நிழற்படங்கள் எடுத்து தங்களது கணினிகளின் ஊடாக வெளி உலகத்துக்கு பதிவேற்றம் செய்து தெரியப்படுத்தியதன் மூலம், சாதாரண குடிமக்கள், ஊடகவியலாளர்களாக மாறியுள்ளனர். அந்நாடுகளின் அரசாங்கங்கள் Satellite செய்தி நிறுவன சமிக்ஞைகளை இடைமறித்திருக்கலாம், வெளிநாட்டு ஊடகவியலாளர்களை தங்களது நாட்டினுள் நுழைவதற்கு தடைகளை விதித்திருக்கலாம், ஆனால் தங்களது சொந்த குடிமக்கள் அவர்களாகவே செய்தி தெரிவிப்பாளர்களாக மாறுவதிலிருந்து கட்டுப்படுத்த அந்த அரசாங்களால் முடியாமல் போயின.

இணைய கிளர்ச்சியிலிருந்து இணைய யுத்தம்

அரசியல் நடவடிக்கைகளுக்காக இணையத்தை உபயோகிப்பது ஒரு விடயம். ஆனால் கணினி வலையமைப்புக்களையும், தகவல் களஞ்சியங்களையும் ஊடறுத்து இடைமறிப்பது, இணைய யுத்தத்தை ஒரு படி மேலே நகர்த்துகின்றது. ஒரு சைபர் தாக்குதலானது (Cyber-Attack), அரசாங்கங்களினதும், பொருளாதார நிறுவனங்களினதும் முக்கிய செயற்பாடுகளை ஸ்தம்பிதமடையச் செய்ய வல்லது என அமெரிக்க பாதுகாப்பு நிபுணர்கள் எச்சரித்திருப்பது ஒரு புறமிருக்க, ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்கா அதனை ஒரு பாரிய அச்சுறுத்தலாக கருதுகின்றது.

“சைபர் வெளி எவ்வாறு உண்மையாக உள்ளதோ, அதனுடன் வரும் அபாயங்களும் உணமையே. இனி மேல், எமது எண்ணியல் கட்டமைப்புக்களும், நாம் தினசரி தங்கியிருக்கும் கணினிகளும், வலையமைப்புக்களும், எமது முக்கிய தேசிய சொத்துக்களாக கருதப்பட வேண்டும்.” என்று அமெரிக்க ஜனாதிபதி பராக் ஒபாமா தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

கடந்த சில வருடங்களாக அமெரிக்காவுக்கும், சீனாவுக்கும் இடையில் சைபர் யுத்தம் ஒன்று நடைபெற்று வளர்ந்து வருகின்றது. ஒவ்வொரு தரப்பும், தங்களது எதிர் தரப்பானது, ஹேக்கர்களின்(Hackers) இராணுவம் ஒன்றை வைத்து தங்களின் மீது சைபர் தாக்குதல்களை மேற்கொள்வதாக குற்றம் சாட்டியுள்ளன. (குறிப்பு: ஹேக்கர்கள் எனப்படுவோர், கணினி வலையமைப்புக்களை ஊடறுத்து தகவல்களை களவாடுவதில் அல்லது மாற்றுவதில் விற்பன்னர்கள் என பொருள் கொள்ளலாம்)

இந்த யுத்தத்தின் பிரதானமான போராட்ட களமாக கூகிள் (Google) நிறுவனத்தின் வழக்கு அமைந்துள்ளது. இவ்வமெரிக்க நிறுவனமானது, தணிக்கைகள், அரசாங்க பின்புலத்துடன் நடைபெறும் ஹேக்கிங் நடவடிக்கைகள் தொடர்பிலான சீன அரசாங்கத்துடன் ஏற்பட்ட பிணக்கில் கடந்த 2010 ஆம் ஆண்டு, பகுதியளவில் சீனாவிலிருந்து வெளியேறியது.

கூகிள் நிறுவனத்தின் உதவியுடன் தங்களது நாட்டை வேவு பார்ப்பதாக சீனா அமெரிக்காவை குற்றம் சாட்டும் அதேவேளை, தங்களது நிறுவன ஊழியர்களது மின்னஞ்சல் கணக்குகளை (Email Accounts) ஊடறுத்து தகவல்களை களவாடுவதாக கூகிள் நிறுவனம் சீனாவை குற்றம் சாட்டியுள்ளது.

ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்கா தனது முன்னாள்/இந்நாள் எதிரியான ஈரானுடனும் அண்மைக்காலங்களில் சைபர் யுத்தங்களில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றது.

2009 ஆம் ஆண்டு நடைபெற்ற சர்ச்சைக்குரிய ஈரானிய அதிபர் தேர்தலில் மஹ்மூத் அஹ்மெடிநேஜாத் மீண்டும் வெற்றி பெற்றதை அடுத்து அந்நாட்டில் ஏற்பட்ட ஈரானிய அரசுக்கெதிரான ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்களைத் தொடர்ந்து இந்த சைபர் யுத்தம் ஆரம்பமாகி இருக்கும் என்று கருதப்படுகின்றது.

மக்களை ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்களுக்கு ஒன்று திரட்டும் ஊடகமாக எதிர் தரப்பினர் இணையத்தை பயன்படுத்துவதாக ஈரானிய அதிகாரிகள் கருதினர். இதனால் அவ்வதிகாரிகள் இணையத் தொடர்பை துண்டித்து விட கருதினர்.

ஆனால் ஆர்ப்பாட்டக்காரர்கள் YouTube, Twitter போன்றவற்றை தொடர்ந்தும் உபயோகித்தனர். Twitter நிறுவனம் தமது வழமையான பராமரிப்பிற்காக தமது சேவையை தற்காலிகமாக இடைநிறுத்த கருதிய போது, ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்க அரசு செயலாளர் ஹிலறி கிளிண்டன், ஆர்ப்பாட்டங்கள் தொடரும் வரை சேவையை தொடர்ந்து ஆன்லைனில் வைக்குமாறு கோரினார்.

மின் கண்களும், மின் காதுகளும்

இஸ்ரேல் அரசானது, தங்களது முக்கிய வலையமைப்புக்களை இணைய தாக்குதல்களிலிருந்து பாதுகாப்பதற்காக, மத்திய கிழக்கில் சைபர் கட்டளை தலைமையகத்தை (Cyber Command) நிறுவி உள்ளது. தங்களது தொழில்நுட்ப வல்லமைகளை காண்பிப்பதற்காக இஸ்ரேல், தமது எல்லை புறங்களையே தெரிவுசெய்கின்றன. லெபனானுடனான வட புற எல்லையில் இஸ்ரேல், பாரிய மின் கண்களும், மின் காதுகளும் கொண்ட ஒரு வலையமைப்பை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது.

இஸ்ரேலுக்கும், லெபனானின் ஹிஸ்புல்லாஹ்வுக்கும் இடையில் தற்போது நடைபெறும் உளவுத்துறை யுத்தத்தில் அதிகளவில் அதிநவீன மின்னியல் கருவிகளே உபயோகப்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன.

பெப்ரவரி 2010 இல், தன்னை (இஸ்ரேல்)மொசாட் இனுடைய உளவாளி என்று ஒப்புக்கொண்ட ஒருவரை லெபனான் கைது செய்தது. அவர், அதிநவீன கண்காணிப்பு சாதனத்தொகுதி ஒன்றை தன்னுடைய காரினுள் மறைக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு பெட்டியில் இருந்த கணினியையும், கையடக்க தொலைபேசியையும் உபயோகித்து இஸ்ரேலிலுள்ள தன்னுடைய கையாட்களுக்கு சமிக்ஞைகள் அனுப்பியதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

கேட்பதற்கு விஞ்ஞான புனை கதை போன்று இருந்தாலும், இக்கிரகத்திலுள்ள ஒவ்வொரு தொலை பேசி அழைப்பையும், மின்னஞ்சலையும் ஒற்று கேட்கும்/பார்க்கும் சர்வதேச உளவு பார்க்கும் வலையமைப்பு ஒன்று இருப்பது உண்மை.

சரியான கருவிகள் உள்ள நிலையில் தொலைபேசி அழைப்புக்களையும், குறுஞ்செய்திகளையும் ஒற்று கேட்பது/பார்ப்பது நாளுக்கு நாள் இலகுவடைகின்றது. விஷேடமாக இன்று உலகளாவிய ரீதியில் அதிகளவிலான தொலைபேசி வலையமைப்புகளில் உபயோகப்படுத்தப்படும் GSM தொழில்நுட்பமானது இதனை இன்னும் இலகுபடுத்துகின்றது.

மேலும், ஒருவருடைய கைத்தொலைபேசியிலோ, கணினியிலோ தகவல்களை திருடும் நோக்கத்துடன் மென்பொருட்களை நிறுவுவது ஐந்தாவது பரிமாணத்தில் நிகழும் யுத்த முறைமைகளில் புதியதோர் யுத்த உத்தியாக பரிணமித்துள்ளது.

Releasing a file handle

I recently came across a problem, where I had to create a blank file and then do some modifications on it. Accordingly I used the following coding:

After importing the System.IO namespace:

File.Create("test.txt");

and then went on to other code where it adds/modifies the file. But this threw a runtime error like "The file is being used by another process", which was reasonable because the above code while creating the file generates a handle which is still being held.

After a couple of workarounds, I came up with the following piece of code, where all the necessary modifications could be done and then release the handle:

using(FileStream fs = new FileStream("test.txt",FileMode.CreateNew,FileAccess.ReadWrite))

Undo - Redo library for .NET

Recently I was working for a client who required a Undo - Redo functionality implemented for a listview on his C# based application. I did a search on the internet which introduced me to a design pattern called "Memento Pattern" which indeed is designed solely for the use of managing memory stacks. There were some good articles on CodeProject on implementing this, yet it was a bit time consuming for me to grasp the idea quickly. Luckily I came across this free library from Software Productions which gave a boost to my thoughts. Actually it uses a circular array for the memory stack and was quite generic too. I hope it helps others too.

Permissibility of Music in Islam

I was recently very much inspired by the emergence of music artistes such as Sami Yusuf and Maher Zain who I felt are doing a great job in spreading the message of Islam with modern music culture. Then again a long lasting anonymousness was striking my head, of whether music is permissible in Islam. From my childhood I have heard of repeated sayings from different scholars that music is haraam (not permissible) without a second thought. I have been trying to keep myself attached to those teachings, yet on many occasions human nature or Satan leads me to listen some sort of music. But after listening to their songs and their personal intentions I felt there must be some sort of permission and limit in Islam in terms of music. விண்டோஸ் எக்ஸ்பி இயங்குதளத்தை பயன்படுத்துபவர்கள் சிலருக்கு, ஒரு சில சமயங்களில் கணினியை திறக்கையில் கீழே உள்ளது போன்ற பிழைச்செய்தி கருப்புத் திரையில் வந்திருக்கலாம்.

என்றோ பிழைச் செய்தி வந்திருக்கலாம். எத்தனை முறை Restart செய்தாலும் கணினி பூட் ஆகாமல் இதே செய்தி தொடர்ந்து வரும். safemode சென்றாலும் இதே நிலைதான்.

இந்த நிலையில் விண்டோஸ் எக்ஸ்பி இயங்குதளத்தை மறுபடி நிறுவாமல் இதனை சரிசெய்ய என்ன செய்யலாம் எனப் பார்க்கலாம்.

முதலில் வருகின்ற பிழைச் செய்தியை சரியாக புரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். அதாவது, \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE என வருகிறதா? அல்லது \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM என வருகிறதா? என்பதை தெளிவுபடுத்திக் கொள்ளுங்கள். (SOFTWARE / SYSTEM).

இந்த பணியை நாம் Windows Recovery Console லில் செய்ய வேண்டும். மிகச் சில கணினிகளில் மட்டுமே இது நிறுவப்பட்டிருக்கும். இது போன்ற கணினிகளில் பூட் ஆப்ஷனில் Windows Recovery Console என்பது பட்டியலிடப்பட்டிருக்கும்.

ஒரு வேளை உங்கள் கணினியில் இந்த வசதி நிருவப்படவில்லை எனில், உங்களுடைய விண்டோஸ் XP பூட் CD யை உபயோகித்து பூட் செய்து கொள்ளுங்கள். இனி கீழே தரப்பட்டுள்ள படத்தில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ள Repair திரை வரும் வரை தொடருங்கள்.

இந்த திரையில் 'R' கீயை அழுத்தினால் Recovery Console வந்துவிடும்.

இது சரியெனில் 1 டைப் செய்து என்டர் கொடுத்து, Administrator கடவு சொல்லை டைப் செய்யவும். (விண்டோஸ் பதியும் பொழுது பெரும்பாலானோர் Administrator க்கு கடவு சொல்லை கொடுப்பதில்லை, அப்படியிருந்தால் வெறுமனே என்டர் கொடுத்தால் போதுமானது).

இப்பொழுது திரையில்,

C:\WINDOWS> என்ற ப்ராம்ப்ட் வரும், இங்கு கீழ்கண்ட கட்டளைகளை ஒன்றன்பின் ஒன்றாக டைப் செய்து என்டர் கொடுக்கவும்.

(Corrupt ஆன கோப்பு SYSTEM ஆக இருந்தால் மேலே உள்ளதைப் போலவும் SOFTWARE ஆக இருந்தால் கீழே உள்ளதைப் போலவும் கொடுக்கவும். இதில் 'C:' என்பது உங்கள் கணினியில் எந்த ட்ரைவில் இயங்குதளம் நிருவப்பட்டிருக்கிறதோ அதனை குறிக்கிறது. உங்கள் கணினிக்கு தக்கவாறு மாற்றிக்கொள்ளவும்)

Facebook: A real menace

I had been using Facebook since the end of 2008, and have been using it in the mid of 2009 at its peak, with all the games in it. Silently they were also eating my time as well. I was really addicted to see the recent robberies and attack taking place in the Mafia Wars game, take turns in Scrabble and eager to update my status for no reason. I just couldn't find a breakthrough in my life to not feel addicted.

the EDMD or "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" Facebook page on May 21, 2010 that brought in storms of condemnation from all parts of the Muslim world permitted me to think of quitting Facebook for the sake of religion. Eventually I did so.

Although I have set up a profile on a muslim alternative called www.millatfacebook.com, it still hasn't attracted me well...But I think I feel now a bit more comfortable than I was before, with more things to think of in my life than Facebook.

Here "top 1 *" will give the first record and order by recid desc will order it in the descending order to get the last record.

Installing NAV 5.0 SP1 on Windows 7

I recently migrated to Windows 7 from Windows XP. Most of the software updates were going smooth with suitable notifications if anything was missing, but when I tried to install NAV 5.0 SP1, I got a strange error message, but minutes later I got a notification that I had to upgrade my SQl Server 2005 Express to, SQL Server 2005 SP3.

Since NAV 5.0 SP1 installs a SQL Server 2005 Express, I was hoping that the service pack may be the cause for the strange error. I got it downloaded and ran it, everything was fine since then.

Installing SQL Server 2008 Express Edition

I do not know how many people were resulted with the problem in getting SQl Server 2008 Express Edition (offered freely by Microsoft) installed. Several times i got problem with the authentication, even though i produced appropriate information. Anyway some how i got it installed. But unlike it's predecessor, the number of steps inorder to get it installed was high. Yet the installion interface was cool. Microsoft has required to get the following components installed beforehand:

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Windows Installer 4.5
Windows Powershell 1.0

as of 24th of May 2009...

But I was shown with one more requirement during the installtion, which Microsoft has forgotten to mention in it's updated page for users who have installed Visual Studio 2008. You got to get the Visual Studio 2008 SP1 installed if you are to use the latest version of SQL Server 2008.

When i was recently watching the news on http://aljazeera.net/english live on air,there appeared a special program called "Rizkhan", which on that day introduced a very special person of the current day universe. Yes he was Stephen Hawking. I wouldn't have known him unless I saw him on that program. He was interviewed by the program presenter on the aftermath of the GAZA Holocaust earlier this year. He was one of the many people who strongly rejected the Israeli offensive. This man is a genious from Britain, who could be called the next Albert Einstein of the universe. The following is a short description about his life and mission:

Stephen Hawking was born on the 300th anniversary of Galileo's death. He has come to be thought of as the greatest mind in physics since Albert Einstein. With similar interests -- discovering the deepest workings of the universe -- he has been able to communicate arcane matters not just to other physicists but to the general public.

Hawking grew up outside London in an intellectual family. His father was a physician and specialist in tropical diseases; his mother was active in the Liberal Party. He was an awkward schoolboy, but knew from early on that he wanted to study science. He became increasingly skilled in mathematics and in 1958 he and some friends built a primitive computer that actually worked. In 1959 he won a scholarship to Oxford University, where his intellectual capabilities became more noticeable. In 1962 he got his degree with honors and went to Cambridge University to pursue a PhD in cosmology. There he became intrigued with black holes (first proposed by Robert Oppenheimer) and "space-time singularities," or events in which the laws of physics seem to break down. After receiving his PhD, he stayed at Cambridge, becoming known even in his 20s for his pioneering ideas and use of Einstein's formulas, as well as his questioning of older, established physicists.

In 1968 he joined the staff of the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge and began to apply the laws of thermodynamics to black holes by means of very complicated mathematics. He published the very technical book, Large Scale Structure of Space-Time but soon afterwards made a startling discovery. It had always been thought that nothing could escape a black hole; Hawking suggested that under certain conditions, a black hole could emit subatomic particles. That is now known as Hawking Radiation. He continued working on the theory of the origin of the universe, and in doing so found ways to link relativity (gravity) with quantum mechanics (the inner workings of atoms). This contributed enormously to what physicists call Grand Unified Theory, a way of explaining, in one equation, all physical matter in the universe.

At the remarkably young age of 32, he was named a fellow of the Royal Society. He received the Albert Einstein Award, the most prestigious in theoretical physics. And in 1979, he was appointed Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, the same post held by Sir Isaac Newton 300 years earlier. There he began to question the big bang theory, which by then most had accepted. Perhaps, he suggested, there was never a start and would be no end, but just change -- a constant transition of one "universe" giving way to another through glitches in space-time. All the while, he was digging into exploding black holes, string theory, and the birth of black holes in our own galaxy.

In 1988 Hawking wrote A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to Black Holes , explaining the evolution of his thinking about the cosmos for a general audience. It became a best-seller of long standing and established his reputation as an accessible genius. He wrote other popular articles and appeared in movies and television. He remains extremely busy, his work hardly slowed by Lou Gehrig's disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease that affects muscle control) for which he uses a wheelchair and speaks through a computer and voice synthesizer.

Abortion: waste of Life

Dear Mr. President,

Abortion is murder-plain and simple. In an abortion individuals terminate their pregnancy killing the baby. A baby, no matter how young, has a heart; therefore. the doctors performing these procedures are stopping a heart from beating, a child from living, and a life from being lived. Abortion should only be performed in extreme cases as decided by a court, judge, or certified doctor. Nonetheless, some people are having abortion performed as birth control and it's not.

Every year in America 1.37 million murders are committed. These murders all happen inside the womb. When doctors perform an abortion, they are killing a baby. The court systems give murderers 25 years to life, so why do we let the doctors get away without any consequences? Some believe the baby isn’t alive, but yet it has a heart; anything that has a beating heart is alive. There is absolutely no reason why some of these babies can’t be carried through full term and adopted. A life of adoption with loving parents and a nice home is better than no life at all.

Abortion should not be a choice left up to the public. Only under very extreme circumstances should an abortion ever performed and abortion shouldNOT just be a choice that anyone gets to be able to make. What if some irresponsible teenagers or drug dealers are wasting lives getting abortions? Why do we let them if they are ruining their lives anyway? The only people who should get the choice are the women who will die if the baby is born due to a terminal illness or the women who will pass on a disease that no human should have to suffer. The women who fear for their health or lives, and the terminally ill pregnant women should also have the option to abort. This choice, however, should not be taken lightly and should be discussed and recommended by a doctor.

Unfortunately, women are having abortions because they purely don’t want the baby. Abortion is not a birth control method. In fact, abortions have an excruciatingly painful list of side effects including impacted grieving, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and self-destructive tendencies that no one who is sane should suffer through. If a woman really doesn’t want her baby, then she can ask for an emergency birth control pill. These pills don’t abort the baby; they stop the egg from being fertilized, meaning simply that no heart is stopped. Overall, the side effects of an abortion aren’t worth the loss of a life ,and there are other options. Thus, people need to think more about what they are doing.

I realize abortions are a touchy subject to discuss, but someone has to do something. Mr. President, you should have health clinics that openly carry these emergency birth control pills and pass a law that only those in need of an abortion should get one. Without these alternative methods, like emergency birth control pills, that we keep inventing people will resort to “back alley” abortions and hurt themselves and the babies inside of them. Therefore, Mr. President, you have to do something about the 1.37 million American babies that are killed each year.

For years, I have been warning that Israel is psychologically and morally capable of carrying out a holocaust or a genocide against the Palestinian people.

Needless to say, the horrible events of the past two weeks in Gaza seem to have enforced and vindicated my convictions in this regard.

Israel, government and people, seem to possess the psychological propensity that would make her embark on such a monstrosity. Yes, there is a minority of Israeli Jews and non-Israeli Jews who say "No" to all the evils and crimes Israel is doing in their name.

However, let us be honest and realistic. These people are a small minority and have very little influence if any on the Israeli government and army.

Today, what many people had thought would be unthinkable or far-fetched in terms of the extent to which Israel would be willing to go in savaging the Palestinian people seems quite possible in light of the Jewish state's Nazi-like behavior in the Gaza Strip.

Given the Israeli mindset, Israel may well be hoping the latest genocidal onslaught could have a certain desensitizing and de-mystifying effect on people's perceptions and attitudes.

The logic is quite simple. If the world can be bullied or cajoled into silence and apathy when Gaza is ravaged and thousands of its inhabitants are slaughtered en mass in full view of humanity, the same world can likewise be manipulated in similar fashion to come to terms with a greater genocide.

On Tuesday, 6 January, one Israeli official, Eli Yeshai, called for the total extermination of Gaza . The leader of the ultra Orthodox Shas party argued that "extermination of the enemy is sanctioned by the Torah."

Other Israeli political and religious leaders have lately spoken enthusiastically of the need for "wiping off Gaza from the face of earth" and "annihilating of every moving thing there."

Interestingly, this is by no means a minority opinion in Israel. Indeed, one could safely argue that the "ideology of annihilation" now represents the mainstream in the Israeli society.

As we all know, Israel heavily employs mendacity, deception and disinformation to conceal, or at least blur, its criminality and barbarianism.

The Israeli hasbara machine's main job has always been and continues to be to turn the black into white, the white into black and the big lie into a "truth" glorified by millions, especially in the west.

To effect these obscene lies and "virtual realities," the Israeli government counts heavily on the Jewish-controlled or Jewish influenced media in the western world, especially in North America where telling the truth about Israel is the ultimate taboo.

In truth, what has been happening in Gaza is a huge massacre of genocidal proportions as many conscientious Jews have testified.

What else can be said of this wanton, deliberate and indiscriminate blanket bombing of densely-populated neighborhoods and refugee camps?

I believe terms such as "huge massacres" and "genocidal onslaught" used in reference to the Gaza nightmare cannot be dismissed by Israel and her supporters as merely overstatements or rhetorical exaggerations.

This is unless Israel views non-Jewish pain and suffering as disingenuous, probably because non-Jews or "goyem" are actually considered "human animals" by a large and growing class of fanatical rabbis, politicians and military leaders.

So far, more than 4000 Gazans have been mercilessly killed or badly mutilated or incinerated in less than two weeks of intensive indiscriminate aerial and artillery bombing targeting everyone and everything.

Mosques, homes, public buildings, shelters, schools, colleges, dormitories, factories, cultural institutions, businesses, even hospitals and drug stores as well as the entire civilian infrastructure have been bombed and reduced to rubble.

The rabid bombing from high altitudes has exterminated numerous whole families and destroyed entire neighborhoods. This is probably what Israeli leaders had in mind when they spoke earlier about a "shock and awe" campaign against Gaza .

On 6 January, Israeli tanks fired several artillery shells at a school at the Jabalya refugee camp, killing more than 40 civilians, mostly children and women, who had sought shelter at the UNRWA-run facility. Dozens others were injured, many critically.

Israeli army spokespersons, who are actually professional liars, claimed that Palestinian fighters were seen in the vicinity of the building and that some of these actually fired on Israeli troops from the school.

However, UN officials in Gaza strongly denied the Israeli account, with one UN official saying that he was "99.99%" that the Israeli army was lying.

Earlier, the Israeli air forces hit a mourning reception, killing 15 members of the same family.

The pornographic killing of civilians has no explanation other than the ostensible fact that Israel is adopting a no-holds-barred approach toward Gaza , which is still under effective Israeli occupation despite the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the coastal enclave more than three years ago.

Well, if we are to accept this logic, namely that everything is fair in war, then Jews should stop complaining about what the armies of Hitler did to them during World War II.

It is just unacceptable to apply two standards of morality, one for Jews and another for non-Jews. For if what Israel is doing in Gaza is right, as Israel and her supporters maintain, then what the Nazis did in Europe several decades ago must have been right as well. And vice versa.

After all, crime doesn't become kosher when committed by Jewish hands.

Colossal crime

The enormity of the present holocaustic assault is undoubtedly a colossal crime against humanity.

In proportion to the size of population, the murder and maiming of 4000 Gazans (the number keeps rising) is like the US having at least a million of its citizens killed or badly injured as a result of a foreign aggression.

As to the utter destruction of Gaza , it is equally shocking. Some American expatriates here in occupied Palestine have spoken of a double holocaust in Gaza , one targeting humans, and another targeting civilization.

Facing their crimes, pornographic and outrageous as they are, many Israelis, probably the majority, are simply so gleeful that they think Israel is doing the right thing and that God is standing on the side of Israel in this war and every war.

Some religious Israelis have become so euphoric, thanks to the Gaza blitz, that they think the Messiah's coming imminent.

Other "religious" Israeli Jews, including rabbis, readily justify the wanton slaughter by quoting biblical verses justifying genocide.

One Israeli settler leader recently argued during a conversation with a visiting American peace activist that "if it was right to commit genocide during Biblical time, why can't it be right to commit genocide now . Has God changed his mind," the settler wondered sarcastically.

As to Israeli leaders and officials, they simply indulge in what they have always been indulging in, namely "denial" and "self-righteousness" or simply playing the role of victim.

Thus behaved Shimon Peres, the Israeli President, when he told al-Jazeera during a live interview on Monday, 5 January.

" We don't kill and we have not killed any children in Gaza . We are the victim of Hamas aggression," said the pathological liar and certified war criminal rather shamelessly.

Peres's pornographic lies don't need any further comment. They speak for themselves.

Zionist Jews may very well think that might is right, and that morality is unneeded and unnecessary as long as they possess overwhelming material strength.

They may think that the rivers of blood the "only democracy in the Middle East " has been shedding will strengthen Israel and terrorize its neighbors.

Well, it may in the short run. However, in the long run, Israeli criminality and evilness will make it sterile from within to the point of death.

Like evil people, evil states shall not prosper.

SOA gets an Obituary

Burton Group analyst Anne Thomas Manes has declared SOA dead but says that offshoots like mashups and cloud computing remain alive and well

SOA is dead but services remain alive, according to a prominent analyst who published an obituary for SOA in a blog post on Monday.

In her blog, Anne Thomas Manes, vice president and research director at Burton Group, pronounced SOA dead.

"SOA met its demise on January 1, 2009, when it was wiped out by the catastrophic impact of the economic recession. SOA is survived by its offspring: mashups, BPM, SaaS cloud computing, and all other architectural approaches that depend on 'services,'" Manes wrote.

Instead of becoming a savior, SOA "instead turned into a great failed experiment -- at least for most organizations," Manes said. SOA failed to deliver on promised benefits and after the investment of millions, IT systems are not better than before. In some cases they are worse, with costs higher and projects taking longer, she said.

Interviewed Monday afternoon, Manes said successful SOA implementations have resulted from major IT transformation efforts rather than just slapping a bunch of interfaces on applications. "Those companies have seen spectacular results from these efforts, but in those circumstances, SOA was part of something much bigger," Manes said.

Companies need to become more in tune with what businesses require and understand what the problems are, she said. What is required is an examination of application architecture rather than project-by-project integration, Manes noted, but with the difficult economy, funding for SOA has dried up, she said.

"All these guys intent on pursuing [an] SOA initiative, they're not going to have any money to do it because the business is not going to continue to fund it," Manes said. In conducting research, she found that the failure of SOA to deliver on initiatives has soured those holding the purse strings.

Still, Manes does emphasize a continuing need for services, such as cloud services. She advised against using the acronym SOA, which has generated a backlash. Instead of people talking about architecture and services, they have focused on such matters as ESBs (enterprise service bus).

"SOA has become a bad word. It must be removed from our vocabulary," she stressed in her blog.

"The demise of SOA is tragic for the IT industry. Organizations desperately need to make architectural improvements to their application portfolios," she wrote. Service-orientation is a prerequisite for rapidly integrating data and business processes and enabling situational development models like mashups. It also is foundational for SaaS and cloud computing, Manes said.

"Although the word 'SOA' is dead, the requirement for service-oriented architecture is stronger than ever," she said. Successful SOA requires disrupting the status quo and redesigning the application portfolio as well as a shift in how IT operates, said Manes.

She cited Bechtel as a company that has had success with services but does not even use the term "SOA."

Two vendors prominent in SOA, HP and IBM, could not be immediately reached Monday to comment on Manes's blog.

இஸ்லாமிய மார்க்கத்தில் திருமணம் என்பது ஒரு ஆணுக்கும், பெண்ணுக்கும் ஏற்படும் வாழ்க்கை ஒப்பந்தமாகும். மாற்று மதத்தில் கல்யாணம் சொர்க்கத்தில் நிச்சயிக்கப்படுகிறது என்று கூறுவது இஸ்லாத்தில் இல்லை. திருமணம் புரியவுள்ள ஆணும் பெண்ணும் ஒரு ஒப்பந்தத்தின் அடிப்படையில் இருவரும் தங்களது பரிபூரண சம்மதத்தை தெரிவிக்க வேண்டியது மிக அவசியமாக வலியுறுத்தப்பட்ட விஷயமாகும்.

முன்பே மணமுடிக்கப்பட்டு கணவனை இழந்துவிட்ட விதவையும், அல்லது முந்திய கணவனால் விவாக முறிவு (தலாக்) கொடுக்கப்பட்ட பெண்ணும் தனக்காக இத்தா காலம் முடிந்ததும் மறுமணம் முடிக்க விரும்பினால் அப்பெண்ணின் முழு சம்மதத்தையும் பெற்றே மண முடித்து வைக்கவேண்டும். இப்பெண்களை அயிம்மா என்றோ தய்யிபா என்றோ அழைப்பர்.

கண்ணிப்பெண்ணாக இருப்பாளேயானால் அவள் தனது சம்மதத்தை மெளனம் மூலம் தெரிவிக்கலாம். அவளுக்கு விருப்பமில்லையெனில் கட்டாயம் சொல் மூலம் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டும். அவள் எந்த பதிலும் தராமல் மெளனம் சாதித்தால் அது சம்மதம் என்ற பொருளைத் தரும். இப்பெண்களை 'பாகிரா' என்று அழைப்பர்.

'அயிம்மா' பெண்களுக்கு அவர்களது சம்தமின்றி திருமணம் செய்து வைக்காதீர்கள். கன்னிப் பெண்களிடம் திருமணம் விஷயமாக அனுமதி பெற வேண்டும் என்று நபி(ஸல்) கூறினார்கள். அல்லாஹ்வின் தூதரே! ஒரு கன்னிப்பெண் (நாணாத்தால்) தெளிவாகச் சொல்ல வெட்கப்படுவாளே! என்று சிலர் கேட்டனர். அதற்கு நபி(ஸல்) அவளது மெளனம் சம்மதமாகும் என்றார்கள். அறிவிப்பாளர்: ஆயிஷா, அப்பாஸ், அபூஹுரைரா(ரழி- அன்கும்) நூல்:புகாரி முஸ்லிம் அபூதாவூத், நஸயீ,திர்மிதி, இப்னுமாஜ்ஜா

இந்த நபிமொழி மூலம் ஏற்கனவே திருமணம் செய்த பெண்கள் தங்களது அடுத்த திருமணத்துக்கு தெளிவான சம்மதம் தெரிவிக்க வேண்டுமென்பதை அறியலாம். கன்னிப்பெண்கள் தங்களது சம்மதத்தை மெளனம் மூலம் தெரிவிக்கலாம். சம்மதம் இல்லையெனில் நிச்சயமாக வாய்விட்டு சொல்லியே ஆக வேண்டுமென்பதை உணரலாம். இவ்விதமாக மணப்பெண்ணின் சம்மதம் பெறாமல் நடத்தி வைக்கப்படும் திருமணம் இஸ்லாத்தில் செல்லத்தக்கதல்ல. அது முறிக்கப்படும்.

கன்சா(ரழி) என்ற அம்மையார் அறிவிக்கிறார்கள்; எனது தந்தை கிதாம்(ரழி) அவர்கள் எனக்கு பிடிக்காத இடத்தில் மணமுடித்துக் கொடுத்தார். நான் நபி(ஸல்) அவர்களிடம் வந்து இதனைக் கூறியபோது அந்த திருமணத்தை நபி(ஸல்) அவர்கள் ரத்து செய்தார்கள். இதே நிகழ்ச்சியை இப்னு அப்பாஸ்(ரழி) அவர்களும் அறிவிக்கிறார்கள். (முஅத்தாமாலிகி, புகாரி, அபூதாவூத், நஸயீ, இப்னுமாஜ்ஜா, பைஹகீ)

இவ்விதம் தனது தந்தையின் வற்புறுத்தலில் நடத்தப்பட்ட திருமணத்தை நபி(ஸல்) அவர்கள் மூலமாக ரத்து செய்யப்படவே கன்சா(ரழி) அவர்கள் அபூலுபாபா(ரழி) அவர்களை மணமுடித்துக் கொண்டார்கள் என்ற விபரம் அப்துர்ரஹ்மான் பின் யஜீத்(ரழி) அறிவிக்க இப்னுமாஜ்ஜா என்ற நூலில் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இதே போல் ஒரு கன்னிப்பெண் சம்மதமின்றி அவளது தந்தையால் நடத்தி வைக்கப்பட்ட திருமணத்தை நபி(ஸல்) அவர்கள் ரத்து செய்ததாக அபூதாவூதில் இப்னு அப்பாஸ்(ரழி) கூற பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

எனவே எந்த முஸ்லிம் பெண்ணையும் அவளது முழு சம்மதமின்றி திருமணம் செய்து வைக்க இஸ்லாத்தில் இடமில்லை. அப்பெண்ணைப் பெற்றெடுத்த தந்தைக்கும் அனுமதியில்லை என்பதை தெளிவாக உணர்ந்து பெற்றோர்கள் நடந்து கொள்வது அவசியமாகும்.

மணமகளுக்குரிய தகுதிகள்

நீ நல்லொழுக்கமுள்ளவளை மணம் புரிவதன் மூலம் வெற்றியடைந்துகொள்! என நபி(ஸல்) அவர்கள் அறிவுரை பகன்றார்கள். (அறிவிப்பவர்: அபூஹுரைரா(ரழி) நூல்: புகாரி, முஸ்லிம், அபூதாவூத்)

எனவேதான் ஒருவேளை செல்வ செழிப்புள்ள மனமகள் ஒருவருக்கு மனைவியாக அமைந்தாலும் அவளது சொத்து பங்கில் அவளது உரிமையின்றி கணவன் கைவைக்க அனுமதியில்லை என இஸ்லாம் கூறுகிறது. மண முடிக்க நாடும் மணமகன் தான் மணக்கும் பெண்ணை உடல் ரீதியாகவும், பொருளாதார ரீதியாகவும் பாதுகாக்கும் தகுதியை பெற்றிருப்பது அடிப்படை தகுதியாகும்.

How to create an array of functions in C#?

This was a question tapping my head recently. Also I was wondering how could we achieve creating pointer of functions in C#. Well that lead me to a small experiment on it and figured out some interesting results as expected. The answer was possible through C# delegates.

First of all we need to understand what C# delegates are. Well to put it simple as I searched the net for a simple explanation, and found a quite simple explanation on CodeProject: "Delegates are simply function pointers". Well to make it more clear, with delegates you can create links to various functions. Ofcourse the description given in the above CodeProject link is fairly enough to understand the use of it.

To put it simple, you can define a common method definition for various functions that have a similar pattern of method definition. Ex: If you have functions to add, subtract, multiply and divide two numbers, the most popular way is to have a method definition with the unique name and two parameters. The pattern would be:

[public|private] int <methodname> (int x, int y)

During system design if you know this pattern in advance then you could define this pattern withe use of a delegate like this:

delegate int delWithTwoParameters(int x,int y);

Here the delWithTwoParameters is the delegate identifier. During run time we can dynamically bind the methods to this delegate and call the appropriate function. Basically all methods will be called from a single (delegate)source. But there are many more like type safety, secure bla bla...But that is not my consideration here... :) Sorry.

Here is a piece of code I did today, which explains the use of delegates and how to create an array of functions based on a single delegate which is the problem of this discussion...Here I have explained the usage of how to use a normal function and a static function with the same delegate:

What Microsoft Got Right: The First 30 Years

Microsoft is one of the most successful companies in modern history. It revolutionized the way companies use IT to do business and helped elevate the importance of IT in terms of corporate strategy.

Since its inception 33 years ago, Microsoft has made many mistakes both large and small. But it also got a few big things very, very right. As the post-Gates era takes shape, we look back on five things Microsoft got right and what they teach us.

Software Is King

Microsoft was among the first companies to see software as the business, not just an add-on sale to hardware. It acted on that insight in a big way.

Before the PC, all software tended to be custom, written for and tied to a specific hardware platform. For example, IBM software ran only on IBM machines and Hewlett-Packard (HP) software on HP machines. Bill Gates and Microsoft untethered software from hardware, instead creating software that could run on almost any brand of PC. This simple idea dramatically expanded the market for Microsoft software, enabling it to drive prices down by spreading development cost across millions of potential customers (compared to only thousands for traditional hardware-specific programs). It was a risky idea because it put Microsoft at odds with hardware giants like IBM. But Microsoft bet big and won, helping spark a Big Bang of inexpensive, prepackaged, off-the-shelf software and the modern software industry.

Lesson: Question the rules. Change the game.

Outsource Your Sales Force

How did Microsoft grow so big so fast? In large part it was the company’s partner strategy. Today, more than 90% of Microsoft products are sold by somebody else. OEM partners such as HP sell most copies of Windows and large reseller partners such as CompuCom sell most copies of Microsoft’s enterprise software, including Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint. In fact, you’d have a difficult time trying to call Microsoft to order a product directly.

Bill Gates knew that a direct sales force could never scale quickly enough to match his ambitions. Instead, he built an army of partner companies and gave them the right to sell Microsoft software. Because Microsoft didn’t field its own direct sales force, these partners came to trust that Microsoft wouldn’t encroach upon their businesses and steal away their best customers. This partner community, from small mom-and-pop computer shops to the world’s largest systems integrators, enabled the company to achieve unprecedented sales volumes with astounding speed without having to spend huge sums to build a direct sales force and consulting practice.

Lesson: Create win-win partner situations to grow fast.

Technology for the Masses

Microsoft has consistently figured out how to make powerful technologies once exclusive to big business—business intelligence, intranets, systems management—accessible to smaller IT shops at a fraction of the cost. In the process, Microsoft has created and captured new customers en masse.

Microsoft’s formula? Build support for its server technologies into the Windows operating system and market low-cost server applications that leverage that support. In many ways, Microsoft is the Home Depot of IT software: it offers sophisticated server technologies IT departments can customize and deploy themselves at a price point that’s hard to resist.

Lesson: Don’t neglect your customers’ most important need: a better price.

Developers, Developers, Developers!

More than any other software company, Microsoft courts developers, lavishing them with powerful tools, free training, and low-cost support. Visual Basic enabled a whole generation of developers to create custom line-of-business applications on top of Office. Now Visual Studio is the tool of choice for serious corporate developers. Microsoft has been rewarded for this generosity by a torrent of third-party applications and custom solutions that have made Windows indispensable on the corporate desktop. Robust developer support for products such as the Office suite and SQL Server has also helped Microsoft products to flourish where competitors once had the field to themselves.

Lesson: Make it easy for partners to customize your product.

The Long View

Microsoft has always taken the long view. It routinely invests billions of dollars in expansive ventures such as Xbox, MSN, and Dynamics with an eye to far-off opportunities and threats. Once engaged, it very rarely retreats. The company will sustain breathtaking losses to gain a foothold in a market (think of Xbox) and endure hits to its image to change a business model that isn’t working (think of MSN). Microsoft continually looks inward and studies how it can improve itself. But despite some long false starts and outright failures (LAN Manager, Windows Mobile, and WebTV), Microsoft has assembled the industry’s largest portfolio of enterprise and consumer software—the least of which generates revenue in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Lesson: Business isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. Be persistent.

Accessing a PDF Printer Driver from a Bluetooth enabled device.

I have mounts of messages that i can't forget saved in my mobile phone. Luckily it has a software where I can print it to printer which has bluetooth facility. But the problem in my case is, I don't have such a printer and also I'm quite sure even if I access such a printer, it would consume a lot of pages (i have 700+ messages :P) for each message.
So i began to search if there are tools to be able to print it directly toa PDF printer driver. Unfortunately the Bluetooth software I have doesn't support it. I even tried to map the PDF Printer driver interface to the Port of the Bluetooh device through that tool, it didn't work. So this lead me to the idea of creating a custom bluetooth interface to access the PDF driver from my phone.
I'm currently working on it, and doing it on C#. Hope I succeed..

Handling of Hijri Calendar in Microsoft Products

It was interesting to me to see how Microsoft was handling Hijri dates, as we know that Muslims follow the lunar calendar. They are using an algorithm called "Kuwaiti Algorithm", which they haven't exposed it to the public. But this alogorithm has been developed after extensive analysis.

It is also interesting to see that they have a special flag to convert gregorian dates to Hijri, and vice versa in SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 as well.

There are two CONVERT styles that are available in SQL Server 2000 to support Hijri dates:

•	130 - Returns the date via the Hijri calendar, in dd mon yyyy hh:mi:ss:mmmAM format.
•	131 - Returns the date via the Hijri calendar, in dd/mm/yy hh:mi:ss:mmmAM format.

For example, to convert a date to Hijri format in Transact-SQL, you would use syntax such as the following:

SELECT CONVERT(nchar, GETDATE(), 131)

This query will return a string such as the following in its result set:

7/05/1421 12:14:35:727PM

The reverse operation is also possible. The following syntax would be used to go in the opposite direction:

SELECT CONVERT(datetime, ' 7/05/1421 12:14:35:727PM', 131)

This query would convert the date to SQL Server datetime type, which in Query Analyzer would look like:

2000-08-07 12:14:35.727

Creating a StringCollection Array in C#.

This explanation was tried in C# 2.0. Basically we all know that StringCollection class allows you to store multiple strings. But unfortunately it doesn't have the possibility of using it as an Array type. But interestingly it allows you to define something like:
StringCollection[] coll = new StringCollection[2];
You get no compile errors,but you cannot access it.It will give a Runtime error, which still I don't know why. I was in need of having a set of related StringCollections stored in an array. So after some discussion and analysis with a friend, we both came up with a solution to achieve what I wanted. I was able to create, and access my StringCollection Array like this:

Initially import the the following mnaespaces:
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Collections.Specialized;

Then some where in a button click event (or just anywhere you prefer):

//Create two string arrays

String[] nameArr = new String[] {"Mafaz","David" };
String[] countryArr = new String[] {"Srilanka","India" };

This is an interesting article I read recently from www.techrepublic.com, which clearly gives an overview of what the next generation professionals should look into. There seems to be a widespread need of business skills fro most of the experts to be competitive in future...

The IT profession will change significantly over the next decade in order to keep up with the swift advance of the technology industry. There are four factors driving these changes. IT will split into two separate career tracks.

The world of technology is racing at a pace so fast that it’s in a continual state of transformation. So how could the professionals who manage that technology not expect to be caught in the vortex of this rapid and perpetual change?

As bandwidth dramatically increases and mobilizes, computing power becomes more efficient and less expensive, and applications move to an always-on and always-available model, the IT profession itself will be dramatically altered to meet the changing requirements of businesses.

Here come the changes

In its recent article IT 2.0: How Changing Technology is Having Big Impacts on Business, the ReadWriteWeb stated:

“Today, there still may be plenty of businesses employing ‘classic geeks’ in their I.T. Department, but that’s about to change. Don’t misunderstand - the world will always need a good engineer, but the I.T. leaders of tomorrow - the ones guiding the business in the use of their computer resources, the ones working with the CEOs to execute the vision and direction via information technology - they will no longer be what we think of as the classic ‘computer geek.’ You know the type - the stereotypical introvert, who’s more comfortable behind the glow of computer screen than interacting with the rest of the human race. The one who likes to speak in acronyms that only he or she understands. The ones who know how to do everything from a command prompt. These folks will be a dying breed…at least around the office.

Instead, tomorrow’s computer ‘geek’ will be a true member of the business team as opposed to the mysterious man behind the curtain who you only notice when something goes wrong. So what does the ‘new geek’ need to know to run tomorrow’s I.T. Department? An entirely new skill set, as it turns out.”

In terms of the factors involved in these changes, ReadWriteWeb cited these four:

Enteprise 2.0 - Collaboration among employees and teams using tools such as SharePoint, Wikis, blogs, and RSS
Cloud services - A lot of servers will move from the corporate data center to the cloud, hosted by Microsoft, Google, and Amazon
The mobile workforce - Mobile office work will spread across the organization, and will no longer be confined just to business travelers
Self-provisioning user base - The next generation of users will be digital savvy and will often select their own hardware and software

Two kinds of IT professionals

While the ReadWriteWeb has accurately described the environment that is revolutionizing the traditional IT department, I have a different conclusion about what it will mean for IT professionals. I think the ultimate factor driving change in the profession will be the long-developing trend toward companies hiring only the professionals who serve the core competencies of their business, and outsourcing everything else to contractors.

This is already be seen in the move toward utility computing and managed services, where a company will contract out parts of its IT department to a provider such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, or Verizon Business. These providers can offer 24/7 service, better specialization and problem solving, and cost containment.

The move to cloud computing will further accelerate the trend. For example, instead of hiring Exchange administrators to manage internal Microsoft Exchange servers, many companies will outsource the Exchange infrastructure to Microsoft in a hosted environment. This type of move also migrates the jobs from the individual company to the provider of the hosted data center.

As such, I believe that over the next decade the IT field will develop into two distinct tracks:

Business analysts - IT professionals who work directly for individual companies — rather than part of a provider or consultancy — will have to become much more business savvy. These will essentially be business professionals who understand technology and how to strategically apply it to business processes. They will need to be well-rounded technologically and have excellent communications skills.
Technology experts - This is where many of the traditional geeks will end up, although many of them will need more business skills than they currently have today, especially if they have to interface with clients. They will rarely work directly for one company, but will rather work with various companies to help solve their IT problems, implement new technologies, and manage their IT infrastructures. For example, this will take the form of well-rounded teams of project-for-hire developers and big data centers managed by large teams of network and server specialists.

My First MCP certification

During my fresher course at SLIIT, i was wondering when do I get the opportunity to sit for a MCP exam. Well my expectations came true when after 3 years at my Job place. The director at my office gave me the opportunity to sit for the MB7-14 C/SIDE Introduction to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0, which falls under the Microsoft Business Solutions Category of certification. Although I preferred the MCTS (.NET certification track) to start my career, after some internal exams I took before sitting for the exam, I luckily manged to pass and obtain my First ever MCP certification.
The certification I earned on May 12th 2008 after passing with 93/100 is Microsoft Certified Business Solutions Specialist for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0.

Removing Multiple Instances of MS SQL Server 2005

I have been into this issue for a long time after installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 in my PC. I had to create multiple server instances in my PC for different projects. But after using them I felt it was just a waste lying there and couldn't find a way to remove them. Interestingly the SQL Server Management Studio or the Enterprise Manager itself didn't have any option to do so.

This is a letter the late American president Abraham Lincoln once wrote to his son’s teacher. A good example for parents.

He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, all men are not true, but teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero, that for every selfish politician there is a dedicated leader. Teach him that for every enemy there is a friend.
It will take time I know, but teach him if you can that a dollar earned is far more value than five found, teach him to lose and also to enjoy winning. Steer him away from envy. If you can, teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Let him learn early that the bullies are the easiest to lick. Teach him if you can the wonder of books. But also give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hillside.
In the school teach him it’s far more honorable to fail than to cheat. Teach him to have faith in his own ideas even if everyone tells him they are wrong. Teach him to be gentle with gentle people and tough with the tough.
Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone is getting on the bandwagon. Teach him to listen to all men, but teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth and take only the good that comes through. Teach him if you can how to laugh when he is sad. Teach him that there is no shame in tears.
Teach him to scoff at cynics and to beware of too much sweetness. Teach him to sell his brawn and brain to the highest bidders, but never to put a price tag on his heart and soul. Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob and to stand and fight if he thinks he is right.
Treat him gently, but do not cuddle him because only the test of fire makes fine steel. Let him have the courage to be impatient… let him have the patience to be brave. Teach him always to have sublime faith in mankind.
That’s a big order, but see what you can do because he’s a fine little fellow, my son.

That is true for everyone from the retail store worker who uses a handheld scanner to track inventory to the chief executive who uses business intelligence software to analyze critical market trends.
So if you look at how progress is made and where competitive advantage is created,
There is no doubt that the ability to use software tools effectively is critical to succeed in today’s global knowledge economy.
The solid working knowledge of productivity software and other IT tools has become a basic foundation for success in virtually any career.
Beyond that however, I don’t think you can overemphasize the importance of having a good background in Maths and Science.
If you look at the most interesting things that have emerged in the last decade whether it is cool things like portable music devices and video games or more practical things like smart phones and medical technology - they all come from the realm of Science and engineering.
Today and in the future, many of the jobs with the greatest impact will be related to software whether it is developing software working for a company like Microsoft or helping other organization use information technology tools to be successful.
Communication skills and the ability to work well with different types of people are very important too.
A lot of people assume hat creating software is purely a solitary activity where you sit in an office with the door closed all day and write lots of code.
This isn’t true at all. Software innovation, like almost every other kind of innovation, requires the ability to collaborate and share ideas with other people and to sit down and talk with customers and get their feedback and understand their needs.
I also place a high value on having a passion for ongoing learning. When I was pretty young, I picked up the habit of reading lots of books.
It’s great to read widely about a broad range of subjects. Of course today, it’s far easier to go online and find information about any topic that interests you.
Having that kind of curiosity about the world helps anyone succeed, no matter what kind of work they decide to pursue.

The Shepherd of Hermas

The Shepherd was a book written by Hermas between 88 and 97 A.D at Patmos, near Ephesus. Like the Gospel of Barnabas, it affirmed the Divine Unity, and it was for this reason that concerted efforts were made to destroy it, once the doctrine of Trinity had become firmly rooted in the established Pauline Church. It was one of the books which were banned as a result of the decisions made by the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D.
Up until the Council of Nicea, the book was accepted and widely used by the earlier followers of Jesus, who regarded Hermas as a prophet. Towards the end of the second century A.D., it was accepted as part of the New Testament by Clement of Alexandria. Origen (185-254 A.D.) also accepted it as a revealed book, and it was placed at the end of the Codex Sinaticus which was in use in the middle of the fourth century A.D.
The Shepherd was a book which obviously could not be ignored and which was accepted as a revealed book by the majority of early Christian thinkers and lovers of God. It was written when the movement to ‘Hellenise’ the teachings of Jesus was in its infancy, and at a time when many of those who followed Jesus were still aware that Jesus had come to restore and expand the teaching which Moses had brought to the Jews. Like Jesus, they were practicing Jews whose understanding of what they were doing was illuminated by the knowledge Jesus had brought. They still believed in and followed the writings of the Old Testament and since The Shepherd affirmed what they already knew, they accepted Hermas’s book into their body of Scriptures.
It was found that the Greek used by Hermas was a simple vernacular. The language could be understood by the common people and it is clear that the book was written for everyone and not for an intellectual elite. His style was frank and informal and he possessed an originality of expression which made the book easy to read.
Hermas begins by telling four visions he experienced, the last of which he calls revelation since on this occasion an angle visited him dressed as a shepherd. The angel informed Hermas that he had been sent by the “most reverend angel” (that is the angel Gabriel) to live with Hermas for the rest of the days of his life.
The angel then ordered Hermas to write down all “the Commands and the Parables.” Since these were dictated to him by the angel, who only related what he was to say by the “most reverend angel” it was accepted as a revealed book by the earlier Christians.
The commands he was told to write down were these:

I. First of all believe that God is One and that He created all things and organized them and out of what did not exist made all things to be, and He contains all things but Alone is Himself uncontained. Trust him therefore and fear Him and, fearing Him be self controlled. Keep this command and you will cast away from yourself all wickedness, put on every virtue of uprightness, and you will live to god if you keep this commandment.

II. Be sincere and simple minded. Speak evil of nobody and do not enjoy hearing anyone do so. Do right and give generously.

III. Love truth.

IV. Observe purity. Be pure not only in action but also in thinking.

V. Be patient and understanding. The Lord dwells in patience, but the devil in ill-temper.

VI. Trust what is right and do not trust what is wrong. Uprightness has a straight and level way, but wrongdoing is a crooked one. There are two angels with men, one of uprightness and one of wickedness.

VII. Fear the lord and keep God’s commands.

VIII. Be self-controlled about what is wrong and do not wrong. But do not be self-controlled about what is right, but do what is right. Restrain yourself from all evil and follow the right path.

IX. Cast off doubt from yourself. Ask the lord without doubting, and you will receive everything. God is not like men who hold grudges, but He is forgiving and feels pity for what He had made. So cleanse your heart of all vanities of this world.

X. Put sadness away from you, for it is the sister of doubt and bad temper.

XI. A man who consults a false prophet is an idolater and void of the truth.
Hermas asked the angel how to distinguish a true prophet from a false. The angel replied that in the first place the man who has the spirit that is from above is gentle, quiet and humble. He abstains from all wickedness and the futile desires of the world… (He) does not speak by himself… but speaks when God wishes him to speak… but all power belongs to the Lord.

A false prophet exalts himself and wants to have a front seat. He is bold, shameless, and talkative, lives in great luxury and accepts pay for his prophesying. Can a divine spirit accept pay for prophesying? The false prophet avoids upright men and attaches himself to those who are doubtful and vain; and he says everything to them falsely in line with their desires. An empty vessel put among empty ones does not break, but they harmonize with one another. Take a stone and throw it up to heaven; see if you can reach it. The earthly things are impotent and weak. On the other hand, take the power that comes from above. Hail is a very small grain, yet when it falls on a man’s head what pain it causes! Or again, take a drop of water which falls on the ground from the roof and makes a hole in the stone. So divine Power that comes from above is mighty.

XII. Cast off from yourself every evil desire and clothe yourself in good and holy desires. God created the world for man’s sake and made his whole creation subject to man, and gave him complete authority to have dominion over all things under heaven. A man who has the Lord in his heart is able to master all things.
Behave as a slave of God. The devil cannot get control of the slaves of God. The devil can wrestle, but cannot throw them.

Simple Machines

I had this idea of posting information of this device which I implemented sometime back with the help of my fellow class mates. A device which explains the functions of simple machines and energy transmission. It was intended to assist students at school understand the way those simple machines work in an enjoyable manner.

During my childhood days I had a desire of playing with small marble balls with my friends and cousins. We would collect old Video & Audio Cassettes, PVC tubes etc to make various settings by arranging all the cassettes vertically in some pattern and setting a tube on front of the first cassette. Then we say "1...2....3...go.." and we let a marble ball travel through the tube and it bangs the first cassette and way it goes on making falling all the other cassettes "thud thud" which was very fascinating to watch and we do not miss the banged ball which we route it to some destination which inturn bangs another set of cassettes. We enjoy the game and go for another different arrangement with same instruments we have.

I've seen similar activities in TV shows where they do it at a big level also in some films(like in the final scene of the Tamil film Apoorwa Sahodararhal) the concept was applied. Those things were encouraging me to myself do something big someday.

And yes the event and moment came. It was a provincial level exhibition (Thambapanni 2001) during my O/Ls(2001). I initiated the idea among my friends with a initial sketch which look like the following figures to do something useful for our next generation to learn. There was "oks" & "uhmms" coz no one was aware how it's gonna function. I explained it to my Science teacher, and she explained it to the class and gave the permission to do so. Luckily we implemented within three days with all the old & used stuff we collected to avoid expenses, and took it to the exibition.

I was nearly jumping on my feet when I heard the news that the device we implemented has been selected for the National Level Exhibition at Issipathana College Colombo 4. Unfortunately I wasn't able to participate in it due to another quiz competition I had to participate. A couple of classmates represented our school on behalf of our school. It was a great achievement for my efforts..

Ok what's this device about? I'll explain from the following figure:

It is a device which explains the functionalities of simple machines and energy transmission. Energy cannot be created or destroyed,but transformed to other forms. Initially some wooden blocks are arranged as above,the tap like structure at the Wheel & axis section is closed, two marbles are placed at one end of the lever, while another heavier marble ball is placed on top of the last wood.Then we hold a marble which means it is static and at some height. So some amount of potential energy is saved at that point.

When we release the marble ball at the tip of the tube by the accellaration of gravity it travels and the energy tranforms into Kinetic energy. The ball bangs on the first wooden block it encounters and falls in to the funnel and drops into a cup on the other side.The blocks fall on one another till the last block which has a heavier ball falls and drops on the Inclined plane(a sort of simple machine). That ball travels down the slope and drops on to the empty end of the Lever(another simple machine). Because of the force of fall, the other two balls at the other end of the lever jump and travel together with the heavier ball into the Wheel & Axis area(A simple machine). The functionality of the simple machines are well understood as the balls travel which is more easier for the learning student. We open the tap which directs the three marble balls to the cup which the very first marble landed. Now we've got all four marbles in one place. There is one more machine to explain as we move to the side of the device:

The last simple machine of our device is the Pulley. We show that the pulley is very handy to carry the bucket to the top. That concludes the explanation of energy transmission and functionalities of simple machines in a brief manner. But it would be appealing to see it work directly...:)

I'm very proud and happy to see my fellow colleagues Gehan, Supun & Nadeesha along with a junior Akila earning a name in the IT industry of Sri Lanka. They were placed 1st runner's up during the Microsoft Inagine Cup 2007 finals, a competition by Microsoft inorder to motivate youngsters towards real world software development..

Their project KAMZA which addresses how organizations can preserve a person’s intellectual gain, in a way which the organization would not be affected even though that the particular person is no longer in service. KAMZA attempts to centralize the knowledge of professionals in service, where even if the person has left the company, “the knowledge” will be stored and reused within the organization itself.

Human Factor-A major challenge

We see many sorts of people around us daily. Each person is of some kind by nature. Project managers in the industries face the problem of co-operating with employees as a big challenge. A slight slippage of a word could cause severe problems in an industry. It would lead to the degradation of the pride of the company too. The following may be the cause of conflicts in an organization:
· Less encouragement of employees
· Trying to show something done by sole contribution of a single person or showing self pride.
· Being dishonest
· Not punctual
· Laziness
· Jealous of one`s work or performance, vengeance
· Not considering the profession as an ethical responsibility
· Working just for money, without considering other factors (environment, co-employees, his/her company)
· Negligence of responsibility

There could be more factors, but above were a few that clashed my mind. I could point out a small example for jealousy. Recently a friend of mine was discussing problems at his office. Before he assumed duties at office, things were quite slow. A lot of projects were in pending. Actually it is a regional office, and it was frequently being criticized for inadequate management by the head office.
After my friend assumed duties as district coordinator of the office, things were changing dramatically. Projects scheduled for longer periods by earlier coordinators were done within months by him. Budgets were reduced, unnecessary expenditures were controlled, which lead to discovering the corruption of earlier coordinators and existing management. The head office was amazed to see his performance, and congratulated him of his achievement. This created a sense of vengeance among existing members. So they started working against him to create a bad image about him to the upper management. Luckily those people succeeded. As a result my friend’s salary of two months was frozen. He concludes his sorrow discussion with a determination to face the challenge. I appreciated his move.

The moral I learnt was, god has purposely created people with different qualities and characteristics. A person, who has the ability to read other peoples’ minds with reducing conflicts, facing all sorts of challenges, is the successful one I would see. A quote by Howard Newton regularly flashing in my mind is worth to note:

“People forget how fast you did a job, but they always remember how well you did it”

Dr. Moore points out that the study of how the human embryo develops in the mother's womb could not progress significantly without the use of microscopes. Microscopes were not invented until the 17th century C.E., and were not used in this field of study until the l8th century. Therefore, when Dr. Moore studied certain verses in the Qur'an that tackles this subject, he remarked, "I was amazed at the scientific accuracy of these statements which were made in the 7th century C.E."

The Qur'an in (39:6) states that God made us in the wombs of our mothers in stages:

Allah says:

"God is the One who fashioned you from a single person and from that (person) created his wife, and He made for you from the cattle, eight pairs. He fashions you inside the bodies of your mothers, formation after formation, in three (veils) of darkness. This is your God, your Lord, His is the Dominion, there is no god but He, so how are you turned away." Qur'an (39:6)

Dr. Moore comments: "The realization that the embryo develops in stages in the uterus was not introduced until the 1940's, and the stages used nowadays were not adopted worldwide until the 15th century C.E."

Furthermore, he says: "The idea that development results from a genetic plan contained in the chromosomes, of the zygote was not discovered until the end of the 19th century C.E. The verse from the Qur'an (80:18-19) clearly states that the nutfa (i.e. the initial drop of fluid) contains the plan or blueprint for the future characteristics and features of the developing human being".

Allah says:

"Of what did He create him. From a small quantity of liquid, God fashioned him in due proportion and ordained his fate" (80:18-19)

The Qur'an (23:12-16) describes that there is a lag or a gap between two of the early stages of growth. How does that compare with modern scientific knowledge? Remarkably! Says Dr. Moore: "It is well established that there is a lag or a delay in the development of the embryo during the implantation... The agreement between the lag or gap in development mentioned in the Qur'an and the slow rate of change occurring during the second or third weeks is amazing. These details of human development were not mentioned or introduced about 40 years ago", yet it is mentioned and clearly described in the Qur'an.

Allah says:

"And certainly We fashioned mankind from the quintessence of a clay. The We placed (mankind) as a small quantity of sperm in a safe lodging firmly established- Then We fashioned the small quantity of sperm into something which clings, and then We fashioned the clinging thing into a chewed lump of flesh, then We made out the chewed flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with intact flesh, then We developed out of it another creature; so Blessed be God, the Best to Create. Then after that you shall surely die; Then on the Day of Resurrection you shall surely be raised up." Qur'an (23:12-16)

The above evidence shows that the Qur'an is indeed from Allah, The One and The Only God.

Allah says in the Qur'an:

" I have three visions for India. In 3000 years of our history, people from all over the world have come and invaded us, captured our lands, conquered our minds. From Alexander onwards. The Greeks, the Turks, the Moguls, the Portuguese, the British, the French, the Dutch, all of them came and looted us, took over what was ours. Yet we have not done this to any other nation. We have not conquered anyone. We have not grabbed their land, their culture, their history and tried to enforce our way of life on them. Why?

Because we respect the freedom of others. That is why my first vision is that of FREEDOM. I believe that India got its first vision of this in 1857, when we started the war of independence. It is this freedom that we must protect and nurture and build on. If we are not free, no one will respect us.

My second vision for India is DEVELOPMENT. For fifty years we have been a developing nation. It is time we see ourselves as a developed nation. We are among top 5 nations of the world in terms of GDP. We have 10 percent growth rate in most areas. Our poverty levels are falling. Our achievements are being globally recognized today. strength. We must be strong not only as a military power but also as an economic power. Both must go hand-in-hand. My good fortune was to have worked with three great minds. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai of the Dept. of space, Professor Satish Dhawan, who succeeded him and Dr.Brahm Prakash, father of nuclear material. I was lucky to have worked with all three of them closely and consider this the great opportunity of my life.

I see four milestones in my career:
Twenty years I spent in ISRO. I was given the opportunity to be the project director for India's first satellite launch vehicle, SLV3. The one that launched Rohini.
These years played a very important role in my life of Scientist. After my ISRO years, I joined DRDO and got a chance to be the part of India's guided missile program. It was my second bliss when Agni met its mission requirements in 1994. The Dept. of Atomic Energy and DRDO had this tremendous partnership in the recent nuclear tests, on May 11 and 13. This was the third bliss.

The joy of participating with my team in these nuclear tests and proving to the world that India can make it, that we are no longer a developing nation but one of them. It made me feel very proud as an Indian. The fact that we have now developed for Agni a re-entry structure, for which we have developed this new material. A Very light material called carbon-carbon. One day an orthopedic surgeon from Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences visited my laboratory. He lifted the material and found it so light that he took me to his hospital and showed me his patients. three Kg. each, dragging their feet around. He said to me: Please remove the pain of my patients. In three weeks, we made these floor reaction Orthosis 300-gram calipers and took them to the orthopedic center. The children didn't believe their eyes. From dragging around a three kg. Load on their legs, they could now move around! Their parents had tears in their eyes. That was my fourth bliss!

Why is the media here so negative? Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?

· We are the first in milk production.
· We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
· We are the second largest producer of wheat.
· We are the second largest producer of rice.

Look at Dr. Sudarshan; he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters. I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert land into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so NEGATIVE?

Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign TVs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology. Why this
obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with selfreliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India.

You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance. Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read;

YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.

YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, "Jaanta hai sala main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost."
YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand. Why don't YOU spit paan on the streets of Tokyo? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston?
We are still talking of the same YOU.
YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India?

Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay, Mr.Tinaikar, had a point to make. "Rich people's dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place," he said. "And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels?
In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan. Will the Indian citizen do that here?" He's right.

We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility. We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.

We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public. When it comes to burning social issues Like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? "It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry." So Who's going to change the system? What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbors, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr. Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.

Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

Why is the eating of Pork forbidden in Islam?

The fact that consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam is well known. The following points explain various aspects of this prohibition:

1. Pork prohibited in Qur’an
The Qur’an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115. "Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah." [Al-Qur’an 5:3]

The above verses of the Holy Qur’an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.
2. Pork prohibited in the Bible
The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you".
"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."[Leviticus 11:7-8]
Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy
"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass."[Deuteronomy 14:8]
A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.

3. Consumption of pork causes several diseases
The other non-Muslims and atheists will agree only if convinced through reason, logic and science. Eating of pork can cause no less than seventy different types of diseases. A person can have various helminthes like roundworm, pinworm, hookworm, etc. One of the most dangerous is Taenia Solium, which is in lay man’s terminology called tapeworm. It harbours in the intestine and is very long. Its ova i.e. eggs, enter the blood stream and can reach almost all the organs of the body. If it enters the brain it can cause memory loss. If it enters the heart it can cause heart attack, if it enters the eye it can cause blindness, if it enters the liver it can cause liver damage. It can damage almost all the organs of the body.
Another dangerous helminthes is Trichura Tichurasis. A common misconception about pork is that if it is cooked well, these ova die. In a research project undertaken in America, it was found that out of twenty-four people suffering from Trichura Tichurasis, twenty two had cooked the pork very well. This indicates that the ova present in the pork do not die under normal cooking temperature.

4. Pork has fat building material
Pork has very little muscle building material and contains excess of fat. This fat gets deposited in the vessels and can cause hypertension and heart attack. It is not surprising that over 50% of Americans suffer from hypertension.

5. Pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth
The pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth. It lives and thrives on muck, faeces and dirt. It is the best scavenger that I know that God has produced. In the villages they don’t have modern toilets and the villagers excrete in the open air. Very often excreta is cleared by pigs.
Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties. No matter how hard you try to keep them clean they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbour’s excreta.

6. Pig is the most shameless animal
The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. In America, most people consume pork. Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives; i.e. many say "you sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife." If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs. We Indians look upon America to be very advanced and sophisticated. Whatever they do, we follow after a few years. According to an article in Island magazine, this practice of swapping wives has become common in the affluent circles of Bombay.

Silent Love

This was a nice mail i enjoyed recently...

From the very Beginning, the girl's family objected strongly on her dating this guy. Saying that it has got to do with family background & that the girl will have to suffer for the rest of her life if she were to be with him.
Due to family's pressure, the couple quarrel very often. Though the girl loved the guy deeply, but she always ask him: "How deep is your love for me?"
As the guy is not good with his words, this often cause the girl to be very upset. With that & the family's pressure, the girl often vent her anger on him. As for him, he only endured it in silence.
After a couple of years, the guy finally graduated & decided to further his studies in overseas. Before leaving, he proposed to the girl: "I'm not very good with words. But all I know is that I love you. If you allow me, I will take care of you for the rest of my life. As for your family, I'll try my best to talk them round. Will you marry me?"
The girl agreed, & with the guy's determination, the family finally gave in & agreed to let them get married. So before he left, they got engaged.

The girl went out to the working society, whereas the guy was overseas, continuing his studies. They sent their love through emails & phone calls. Though it's hard, but both never thought of giving up.
One day, while the girl was on her way to work, she was knocked down by a car that lost control. When she woke up, she saw her parents beside her bed. She realised that she was badly injured. Seeing her mum crying, she wanted to comfort her. But she realized that all that could come out of her mouth was just a sigh. She had lost her voice......
The doctors says that the impact on her brain has caused her to lose her voice. Listening to her parents' comfort, but with nothing coming out from her, she broke down.
During the stay in hospital, besides silence cry,.....it's still just silence cry that companied her. Upon reaching home, everything seems to be the same. Except for the ringing tone of the phone. Which pierced into her heart everytime it rang. She does not wish to let the guy know. & not wanting to be a burden to him, she wrote a letter to him saying that she does not wish to wait any longer.
With that, she sent the ring back to him. In return, the guy sent millions & millions of reply, and countless of phonecalls,.. all the girl could do, besides crying, is still crying....
The parents decided to move away, hoping that she could eventually forget everything & be happy.
With a new environment, the girl learn sign language & started a new life. Telling herself everyday that she must forget the guy. One day, her friend came & told her that he's back. She asked her friend not to let him know what happened to her. Since then, there wasn't anymore news of him.
A year has passed & her friend came with an envelope, containing an invitation card for the guy's wedding. The girl was shattered. When she open the letter, she saw her name in it instead.
When she was about to ask her friend what's going on, she saw the guy standing in front of her. He used sign language telling her "I've spent a year's time to learn sign language. Just to let you know that I've not forgotten our promise. Let me have the chance to be your voice. I Love You. With that, he slipped the ring back into her finger. The girl finally smiled.

SINGAPORE, Feb 7 (Reuters Life!) - Video game addicts, rejoice: U.S. researchers have found that playing is actually good for your eyes, and despite all those dire warnings from your parents, it won't make you blind.

ADVERTISEMENT A study by the University of Rochester showed that people who played action video games for a few hours a day over the course of a month improved their vision by about 20 percent.

"Action video game play changes the way our brains process visual information," Daphne Bavelier, professor of brain and cognitive sciences, said in the study published on the university's Web site, www.rochester.edu, on Tuesday.

"These games push the human visual system to the limits and the brain adapts to it. That learning carries over into other activities and possibly everyday life."

Bavelier and a graduate student tested college students who had played very few, if any, video games in the last year.

Test subjects were given an eye test similar to the one used at regular eye clinics and then divided into two groups—one played shoot-em-up action games for an hour a day while the control group played a less visually complex game.

Their vision was tested after the study, with those who played the action game scoring better in the eye test.

The researchers said their findings could help patients with several types of visual defects.

The new iterator...

I was exposed to C# nearly seven months ago. Then only I got to know about this amazing cool loop in C#.., the foreach loop. Then later at a course in my undergraduate program, i saw it appear in Perl scripting. It was cool. During my second year projects at my campus I used it extensively, mostly for database programming.
But later i began to worry...Can't we survive without it? Because programming languages like C & C++ have survived for some years without that loop i guess. But my guess was wrong, because C++ did have a for_each function as in this link:-

There is no god worthy of worship except God and Muhammad is His messenger. This declaration of faith is called the Shahada, a simple formula which all the faithful pronounce. In Arabic, the first part is La ilaha illallah-‘there is no god except god’; ilaha (God) can refer to anything which we may be tempted to put in place of god-wealth, power, and the like. Then comes illallah: ‘except god’, the source of all Creation. The second part of the Shahada is Muhammadur rasoolullah: ‘Muhammad is the messenger of God.’ A message of guidance has come through a man like us.

2) PRAYER

Salat is the name for the obligatory prayers which are performed five times a day, and are a direct link between the worshipper and God. There is no hierarchical authority in Islam, and no priests, so the prayers are led by a learned person who knows the Quran, chosen by congregation. These five prayers contain verses from the Quran, and are said in Arabic, the language of the Revelation, but personal supplication can be offered in one’s own language.

Prayers are said at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and nightfall, and thus determine the rhythm of the entire day. Although it is preferable to worship together in the mosque, a Muslim may pray almost anywhere, such as in fields, offices, factories, and universities. Only two places are forbidden to pray: the bathroom or toilet, and the graveyard. Visitors to the Muslim world are struck by the certainty of prayers in daily life.

3) ZAKAT

One of the most important principles of Islam is that all things belong to God, and that wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust. The word zakat means both ‘purification’ and ‘growth’. Our possessions are purified by setting aside a proportion for those in need, and, like the pruning of plants, this cutting back balances and encourages new growth.

Each Muslim calculates his or her own zakat individually. For most purposes this involves the payment each year of 2 ½% on one’s capital.

A pious person may also give as much as he or she pleases a sadaqa, and does so preferably in secret. Although this word can be translated as ‘voluntary charity’ it has a wider meaning. The Prophet (pbuh) said:

‘Even meeting your brother with a cheerful face is charity’

The Prophet (pbuh) said: ‘Charity is a necessity for every Muslim.’ He was asked: ‘What if a person has nothing?’ The Prophet (pbuh) replied: ‘He should work with his own hands for his benefit and then give something out of such earnings in charity.’ The Companions asked: ‘What if he is not able to work?’ The Prophet (pbuh) said: ‘He should help poor and needy persons.’ The Companions further asked ‘What if he cannot do even that?’ The Prophet (pbuh) said: ‘He should urge others to do good.’ The Companions said ‘What if he lacks that also?’ The Prophet (pbuh) said ‘He should check himself from doing evil. That is also charity.’

4) THE FAST

Every year in the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast from first light until sundown, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations.

Those who are sick, elderly, or on a journey, and women who are pregnant or nursing are permitted to break the fast and make up an equal number of days later in the year. If they are physically unable to do this, they must feed a needy person for every day missed. Children begin to fast (and to observe the prayer) from puberty, although many start earlier.

Although the fast is most beneficial to the health, it is regarded principally as a method of self-purification. By cutting oneself off from worldly comforts, even for a short time, a fasting person gains true sympathy with those who go hungry as well as growth in one’s spiritual life.

5) PILGRIMAGE (Hajj)

The annual pilgrimage to Makkah- the Hajj – is an obligation only for those who are physically and financially able to perform it. Nevertheless, about two million people (even more are willing, but unable to go due to the accommodation constraints) go to Makkah each year from every corner of the globe providing a unique opportunity for those of different nations to meet one another. Although Makkah is always filled with visitors, the annual Hajj begins in the twelfth month of the Islamic year (which is lunar, not solar, so the Hajj and Ramadan fall sometimes in summer, sometimes in winter). Pilgrims wear special clothes: simple garments which strip away distinctions of class and culture, so that all stand equal before God.

The rites of the Hajj, which are of Abrahamic origin, include circling the Ka’ba seven times, and going seven times between the mountains of Safa and Marwa as did Hagar (Wife of Prophet Abraham) during her search for water. Then the pilgrims stand together on the wide plain of Arafah and join in prayers for God’s forgiveness, in what is often thought of as a preview of the Last Judgement.

In previous centuries the Hajj was arduous (tough) undertaking. Today, however, Saudi Arabia provides millions with water, modern transport, and the most up-to-date health facilities.

The close of the Hajj is marked by a festival, the Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated with prayers and the exchange of gifts in Muslim communities everywhere. This, and the Eid al-Fitr, a feast-day commemorating the end of Ramadan, are the main and only festivals of the Muslim calendar.

· None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother, what he wishes for himself

· He who eats his fill while his neighbor goes without food, is not a believer

· The truthful and trusty businessman is associated with the prophets, the saints, and the martyrs

· Powerful is not he who knocks the other down, indeed powerful is he who controls himself in a fit of anger.

· God does not judge according to your bodies and appearances but He scans your hearts and looks into your deeds

· A man walking along a path felt very thirsty. Reaching a well he descended into it, drank his fill and came up. Then he saw a dog with its tongue hanging out, trying to lick up mud to quench its thirst. The man saw that the dog was feeling the same thirst as he had felt, so he went down into the well again and filled his shoe with water and gave the dog a drink. God forgave his sins for this action. The prophet (pbuh) was asked: ‘Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?’, He said,’ there is a reward for kindness to every living thing.’

Among the reasons for the rapid and peaceful spread of Islam was the simplicity of its doctrine-Islam calls for faith in only one god worthy of worship. It also repeatedly instructs man to use his powers of intelligence and observation.

Within a few years, great civilizations and universities were flourishing, for according to the Prophet (pbuh), ‘seeking knowledge is an obligation for every Muslim man & woman’. The synthesis of Eastern & Western ideas and of new thought with old, brought about great advances in medicine, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography, architecture, art, literature, and history. Many crucial systems such as algebra, the Arabic numerals, and also the concept of zero (vital to the advancement of mathematics), were transmitted to medieval Europe from Islam. Sophisticated instruments which were to make possible the European voyages of discovery were developed, including the astrolabe, the quadrant and good navigational maps.

Quadrant:-a graduated quarter-circular strip of metal etc. b instrument graduated (esp. through an arc of 90°) for measuring angles.
